I cooked loads of these two pasta dishes and keep them in the fridge for the whole weekend :D

This one is Spaghetti alla Puttanesca (which literally means whore’s spaghetti), my favorite pasta dish of all time.

and this one, Spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino (spaghetti with garlic, olive oil and chili).

and I also make these cute little aliens. deep-fried sausages!!

(looks like a badass huh)

Mission Gain Weight Day 4: I'm not sure

seriously no energy left to write this entry. i’m gonna pass out pretty soon. but at least I still cooked today.

whatever it is.

good night

Mission Gain Weight Day 3: Ham Yakisoba

Actually it was supposed to be Bacon Yakisoba (japanese fried noodles), but the supermarket near my house doesn’t have bacon. Well they said it’s sold out, but i’m not sure if that was true, because in china, when you’re looking for something that they don’t sell in their shops, they always say it’s sold out.

I bought this yakisoba sauce when I went to Japan. It’s awesome, and makes my life easier. Just throw everything in the pan, add the sauce, fry it and done!

So here we go, the recipe

What you need:

1. Noodles
2. Ham or bacon. Actually it could be any kind of meat you like. Chicken, beef or even elephant if you want to!
3. Vegetables. I use cabbage, carrot and mushroom
4. The sauce! if you can’t find one, you can salt, mirin, and japanese soy sauce.

What you do:

1. Preheat a large frying pan on a high heat. Add sliced ham and cook for a couple minutes.
2. Add mushroom, sliced carrot and stir-fry until the mushroom is cooked.
3. Add your noodles, cabbage and the yakisoba sauce. Stir-fry a little bit more and make sure that you mix them well and it’s ready to serve.

Mission Gain Weight Day 2: Pork and Enoki Spicy Salad

Have some minced pork left from yesterday, and bought enoki from supermarket this afternoon just to make this salad. It’s one of my favorite dishes. If you love southeast asian cuisine, then you should try to cook this some day. It’s a really easy dish, very light and healthy.

What you need:

1. Minced pork
2. Enoki (Japanese white mushroom like in the picture)
3. Onion (sliced)
4. Celery and spring onion (cut into 1 inch length)
5. Garlic
6. Chili
7. Fish sauce
8. Lime (which I can’t find fresh lime that easily, so I use lime juice)

What you do:

1. Bring a little bit of water to boil and blanch the enoki and take it out and set aside. Save the water, and add the minced pork in, breaking it up a bit, and season with a little bit of salt. When the pork is cooked, turn off the heat.

2. Make the sauce by pounding 2-3 cloves of garlic and chili together, then add fish sauce and lime juice.

This is the sauce

3. Add the enoki, celery, spring onion, onion and sauce into the pork that you just cooked, and mix them together.

then you’re done :)

2 down, 28 days to go

Mission Gain Weight Day 1: Pork Porridge

I’ve got a lot of comments about my weight lately, my friends and colleagues said that I’m becoming too thin. So I’ve come up with this idea, start from today, I’m gonna cook for myself, eat the food I cook, and try to gain weight.

The rule is simple, I just need to cook every single day, at least 1 meal each day, for 30 consecutive days.

Now come see my tiny little kitchen, actually I shouldn’t call it a kitchen!! They’re just counters and cupboards, but there are no stoves and such. My landlord just gave me only this induction cooker, and I’ve been using it since I moved into this apartment.

So first day of Mission Gain Weight, I choose to cook pork porridge (just because I’m craving it). Now let’s see the ingredients.

What you need:

1. Minced pork
2. Egg
3. Ginger (sliced)
4. Spring onion (chopped)
5. Coriander (chopped, save the root to make soup)
6. Soy sauce (I have only this one for seafood)
7. Fish sauce
8. Oyster sauce
9. Rice

What you do:

1. First, I’m gonna make porridge. I’m lucky that my awesome rice cooker can make porridge! so, I put rice and water in the rice cooker, press the button, and boom! 1 hour later, I’ll have beautiful porridge ready for me to eat.

2. Meanwhile, add soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, a little bit of salt and pepper to minced pork, mix them well and make them into small sized pork balls.

3. Bring a small saucepan of water to boil, add coriander root, soy sauce and put the pork balls in. Wait until they’re cooked (they’ll float).

4. Let’s assume that the plain porridge is ready, then you mix the porridge and the soup together, continue to boil a little bit more, until the rice and soup are mixed and a little bit thicker…….and TA-DA

Here is my pork porridge (I also added poached egg to the porridge)

Holy Crab!

I just have no words….

After having hotdog for breakfast, crappy food on the plane for lunch, now it’s time for something real.

Osaka is famous for okonomiyaki, so yeah, okonomiyaki for dinner it is.

I went to this restaurant which I found on the internet, it’s called “Mizuno”, located in Dotonbori area. The reason I picked this restaurant is, I saw their online menu, and they have this spring onion okonomiyaki, looks very very yummy, so I just followed my heart (and stomach) :P

I start browsing my friend’s flickr and found this picture, which is a picture of a dish I cooked for him. Since I don’t know what to do today, I’ll just write down the recipe here (just in case you might want to cook it someday)

This steamed fish dish is seasoned with ginger, garlic, green onion, celery and soy sauce. very easy to make. (btw, a bag of marshmallow and canned pineapple in the background have nothing to do with this dish :P)

What you need:

1 butterfish
3 green onions, cut into 2 inch lengths
3 celeries, cut into 2 inch lengths
1/2 fresh ginger root, slice into thin strips
4-5 cloves garlic, chopped (I just love garlic, you don’t have to use that much)
2 chillies, slice into thin strips
1/4 cup soy sauce + sweet soy sauce (if you can’t find sweet sauce, just add a little bit of sugar to soy sauce)

What you do:

Put the fish in a plate, you could add some leafs of chinese cabbage under the fish if you like.

Sprinkle chopped garlic, green onions, celeries, ginger, chillies over the fish.

Drizzle soy sauce over everything.

Put your plate in a steamer. Steam for 20 mins, or until your fish is cooked.

Easy right? I hope you enjoy your meal. I might have to go find something to eat now….
